American Insurrection
Today, the Congress of the United States of America had the task of accepting the votes of the Electoral College and certifying the election of Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the 46th President of the United States. President Donald J. Trump, who lost the 2020 election to Biden, refused to concede. Today, he held a rally that turned into a violent riot, insurrection, and an attempted coup.
I was standing at the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, looking up at the Capitol in disbelief as I photographed the lunacy unfolding before me.
A middle-aged woman standing next to me said while smiling and in a tone as if she were at a party, "I never thought I'd see something like this in my lifetime."
I looked at her with disgust and said, "I never wanted to see anything like this in my lifetime."
She looked down, her demeanor changing, and merely said, "yeah," then walked away.
They Arrived
They Rallied
They Marched to the Capitol
They Attacked
Many were injured, some died, and One was shot.
After long hours, Donald Trump told them to go home.
Washington, D.C. was locked down and placed under curfew.
